Out: Alone in the Dark - In: Call of Duty 4
I was in town yesterday, shopping. I decided I was getting a bit bored and decided to treat myself to a new PC game. I had no idea what type of game I was looking for so I just began to read the boxes. I came accross Alone in the Dark. The story on the back, as well as the suggested features, seemed like the game would be quite promising. Boy was I wrong.
I installed the game and then loaded it. When I got to the intro screen I decided to change the video settings (from 800×600 to 1440×900). It then asked for a restart; which I did. I tried to run the game again, but nothing. The game just wouldn’t start. I perhaps thought it was the video settings that messed it up so I reinstalled the game and left the settings as they were. The game worked fine, although everything was rather big and lacking in detail.
Anywho, after a while (30 minutes give or take) I got a bit bored and decided to shut down the game. Upon trying to restart the game, it just wouldn’t load. I began looking for a solution, but it seems to be a known problem. All of my drivers are up to date and my computer specs are far greater than the required specs of the game. I decided I’d had enough and went to return it to Game.
I went in and explained the situation to the guy who served me, and asked him if I could simply swap it for a different game. He said that would be fine. I knew already what game I was going to swap it for; Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. I have no idea why I didn’t select that game in the first place.
As for Alone in the Dark, even if it did work, I probably would have found myself not playing it fairly soon. The controls were annoying, the constant switching between first and third person mode were tedious, the movements of the character were a pain and the dialogue was pathetic. Oh well.
CoD time.
